Launch Your Future
When opening your Betterment account, you will be asked to select one goal from the following list of three. After opening an account that supports your chosen goal, you will have the option to add additional goals and/or accounts.
For General Investing, you will answer questions to determine your type of account (e.g., individual, joint, etc.).
For Retirement, there are three tax-advantaged retirement accounts available. Use the following resources to help you decide which type is best for you:
- Traditional IRA – Can I Make a Deductible IRA Contribution?
- Roth IRA – Can I Contribute to My Roth IRA?
- SEP IRA – Should I Establish a SEP IRA for My Small Business?
For Safety-Net, we recommend disregarding this option, as it is exposed to market risk. You will have the opportunity to select cash reserves for an emergency fund after you open either a General Investing or Retirement Account. We believe emergency funds should be completely liquid, without risk of principal loss.
